VI Form Academy and CSMS students celebrate fantastic A-Level results
A 100% pass rate and record number of university placements recorded despite unprecedented times
A-Level students at The VI Form Academy and Cornwall School of Maths and Science (CSMS) at Camborne Science and International Academy (CSIA) celebrated outstanding A-Level results together today, recording a 100% pass rate for the seventh consecutive year.
Despite months of a mixture of remote learning and ongoing disruptions due to the pandemic, students rejoiced together today as they collected their fantastic results.
CSMS students excelled once again, with A*’s and A’s making up 86% of grades. Students recorded an average grade of A overall.
On the back of these results, around 80% of The VI Form Academy and 100% of CSMS students will progress to university, with a third of students being accepted to the more prestigious Universities.
The VI Form Academy and CSMS Vice Principal Sarah Belshaw praised both students and staff for their resilience during these unprecedented times. She said, “Whilst there’s no doubt this past year has been challenging to say the least, we couldn’t be prouder of all the students for their achievements. To record such fantastic results in spite of such disruption is truly a testament to all the hard work that students and teachers have put in over the past year.”
“Everyone has adapted so quickly and positively to any changes thrown their way, and these results just go to show their dedication, determination and perseverance has more than paid off. These results really are a brilliant accomplishment and highlights what a proactive and inspiring cohort of students this year’s leavers are!”
Standout successes include Henry S-F who is going to study Mathematics at Oxford University after gaining 5 A*s in Chemistry, Mathematics, Further Mathematics, Physics, and EPQ. He commented, “I couldn’t have asked for a more supportive environment; there was challenge, but it was pitched at the right level. Everyone in The VI Form Academy is so lovely and I don’t really want to leave.”
After achieving a Distinction* in Drama, an A* in Media and a B in English Literature, Megan T will go on to study Drama with Film at Royal Holloway, University of London. “The VI Form Academy is a lovely, welcoming environment where I was able to talk to anyone at any time. The teachers are really good and very supportive. I know that I have grown in confidence through my Student Leadership role,” she said.
Molly C, who obtained an A* in Biology, A* in Chemistry, A* in Mathematics and an A* in Further Mathematics, has earned a place at Cardiff University studying Dentistry. She said, “I have received wonderful support in applying for my place at university. The atmosphere in the VI Form Academy is brilliant and I have really enjoyed the international and academic opportunities.”
Tristan S-D, who achieved 5 A*s in Computer Science, Mathematics, Further Mathematics, Physics and EPQ, has been accepted to University of St Andrews to study Computer Science. He said, “There are lots of like-minded and interesting people all in the one place at CSMS. The 1:1 support from teachers has been high quality.”
Other top student achievements include:
- Tabitha V: Mathematics A*, Further Mathematics A*, Physics A*, EPQ A*. Accepted to University of St Andrews to study Mathematics.
- Jacob M: Economics A*, History A*, Mathematics A, EPQ B. Accepted to University of Bath to study Economics.
- Lewis W: Business Studies Distinction*, Sport Distinction*, Media A. Accepted to University of Cardiff to study Media and Communications.
- Kameran B: Business Studies Distinction*, ICT Distinction*, Human Biology Distinction*. Accepted to University of Exeter to study Business.
The VI Form Academy students also recorded an impressive average grade of a Distinction* across all of their level 3 qualifications.
Ian Kenworthy, Principal at CSIA, said the results reflect the “inspirational teaching” that occurs at The VI Form Academy every day – no matter the circumstances.
“Students and staff deserve the highest praise and recognition for these results – we are all incredibly proud of our students’ ambitions and aspirations to achieve great things. This year has been particularly challenging but these initial results are testament to their outstanding commitment, applying themselves to ensure they reach their full potential,” commented Mr Kenworthy.
Mrs Belshaw commented, “Along with the wider experiences and skills gathered through our specialist VI Form Academy and CSMS provisions, these results will really give our students the competitive edge in both Higher Education and the workplace. We believe that they will leave our academy as resilient, ambitious and well-rounded individuals – we can’t wait to see what the future holds for them!”
