WHY TAKE PE?

At Camborne Science and International Academy, we aim to realise every student’s potential with a commitment to participation and performance. The faculty of PE, Sport & Dance has a commitment to both curricular and co-curricular activities that will help motivate, stretch and provide students with opportunities to raise their own self-esteem and contribute to raising the profile of CSIA within the wider community. Physical Education, Sport and Dance have a unique contribution to make the overall development of the students in terms of personal, social, emotional and physical attributes. Students experience a Physical Education and Dance Curriculum which continually stresses the true value of sporting involvement and physical activity.

  • In developing positive attitudes, encouraging a sense of responsibility to oneself and others as individuals, whilst generating a sense of fairness, honest involvement and good behaviour, as well as working as part of a team.
  • In ensuring safe participation, recognising and following relevant rules, laws, codes, etiquette and safety procedures for different activities.
  • In promoting health and positive lifestyles through artistic expression and physical activity, this being of importance at all levels of ability.

KEY STAGE 3

Core PE is compulsory for all students. The lessons provided are two, one hundred minute lessons of PE per fortnight. Throughout the year, the pupils will study units of work; that include a range of different sports and activities; that develop broad and balanced foundation skills from which high performance can be built upon. These sports and activities include Invasion Games, Striking & Fielding Activities, Net and Wall Games, Outdoor Adventures, Problem Solving, Fitness and Athletics. They provide a medium through which students develop interpersonal skills that prepare them for healthy and successful lives. Wherever possible, direct links to the community are formed. There are a number of key concepts that underpin the study of PE. Pupils need to understand these concepts in order to deepen and broaden their knowledge, skills and understanding.

In addition to Core PE, Performing Arts is offered as a seventy five minute lesson per fortnight. Students study four units of work throughout each year group that include both Dance and Drama content. Each of these units encourage students to develop their own ideas creatively, using the skills and ideas taught within the lesson and create short performances to showcase their skills. Students also get the opportunity to watch and analyse professional works learning about a range of styles that are then practically explored.
