Salary / Grade: LP7 – LP11 (£49,259-£54,356)

Required for September 2022

Closing Date: Monday 20 June 2022 at 9am

We are seeking an exceptional teacher with an unquestionable proven track record in their subject specialism as well as the ability to challenge the most able learners. The successful candidate will be an outstanding classroom teacher in their career to date and will have a proven track record of successful teaching, or the unquestionable ability to demonstrate this at both GCSE and A level. You must have the ability to innovate, inspire and engage students and staff through your enthusiasm for science. You will need to have a passion for pedagogy so as to lead the learning and teaching within the Science department and support the Assistant Principal with responsibility for Science in developing an innovative curriculum across all key stages.

Science is a high achieving and dynamic faculty. At A level, student progress is in the top 10% of the country and CSMS students achieve over 80% A* – A. The VI Form Academy offers Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Human Biology and Psychology and 25% of our intake at Post 16 is from schools outside of the catchment area.

Camborne Science & International Academy is a friendly, dynamic and innovative school in the heart of beautiful West Cornwall. Science is uniquely placed at the Academy due to the extraordinary opportunities offered to our students. As a consequence, the uptake in GCSE and A level separate sciences is significant and continues to grow. In 2016, CSIA opened NEXUS, its Centre of Excellence for STEM and Liberal Arts (NLA) for 11-16 learners which is situated on its own unique campus. At Post 16, students from all over the county can study at Cornwall School of Mathematics and Science (CSMS), which is part of our VI Form provision. The aim is to develop young learners who are able to pick and choose from the best courses at the very best universities worldwide; young people who have a wealth of research experience from working with some of the best academics in their field of interest.

Our school has developed exceptional International Science and Mathematics links with top schools in Japan, Singapore, Thailand, China and South Korea. Recent collaboration has involved joint research projects, International Science and Mathematics fairs and competitions, as well as many significant student/staff visits and exchanges. The successful appointees will be encouraged to participate in this amazing and unique programme.

The person appointed will be given full support in their career development as we believe that development of staff is a key aspect in raising standards for our students. As these posts are on the leadership pay spine, there will be an expectation that the candidates will assume a whole school or faculty role which, in turn, will support future aspirations.

*The closing date given is a guide. We reserve the right to close the post early dependent on the number of applications, so we advise you to submit your application early to prevent disappointment. Interviews will take place within two weeks of the closing date.
