Encounters with further and higher education

From Year 7, students have the opportunity to interact with providers from further and higher education.  This includes:

  • Assemblies led by Year 13 on ‘Life in VIth Form’
  • Meet the university student including alumni eg Paddy N – shared details of his career as a paediatric nurse in Great Ormond Street Hospital
  • University finance
  • University ambassadors with NCOP Next Steps SouthWest sharing information about accessing university
  • Year 10 VIth Form experience
  • Year 11 Post 16 Day – including CSIA VIth Form, Cornwall College, Duchy College, Falmouth Marine School, Truro and Penwith College, Apprenticeships team
  • T-Level guidance from Truro and Penwith College
  • Visits to universities in VIth Form
  • Visits to higher and further education providers as part of curriculum visits or international links
  • Travel bursaries for eligible students from NSSW for university open days
  • Lectures from university professors in subject areas eg Professor Iain Stewart, Plymouth University
  • Advice and guidance on Oxbridge pathways from Oxford, Cambridge and Eton professors
  • Study skills from University of Bath
  • Vocational pathway students supported by Cornwall College, Duchy College – and a new link with Cornwall Marine Academy
  • Virtual fieldtrips to universities
  • Networking at our careers fayre – including University of Bath, University of Exeter, Peninsula Medical School – University of Plymouth, University of South Wales, Winchester University, Falmouth University, Cornwall College, Duchy College, Falmouth Marine School, Cornwall Marine Academy, ASK – Apprenticeships.
