At home and in the community
It’s lovely to hear from families celebrating the achievements of their children. We would like to hear from you more often. The actions students take inside and outside of school deserve to be celebrated and championed.

At home you could encourage your child to develop their character and reflect on the character values through a variety of means:

I am determined to succeed and be the best that I can be
- Create and maintain a revision programme where they regularly review their learning
- Participate in online courses eg MOOCS (please see resources document)
- Created a ‘vision board’ of who they want to be and how they are going to get there
- Gain certification in a skill eg First Aid, martial arts, marine conservation
- Gain a work experience placement as a weekend job or for the Year 10 work experience week that is linked to their ambitions
- Create a profile on Careerpilot and investigate future careers
- Go on a university open day (there are many available virtually)
- Read the biography or autobiography of a leader in their field or a guide to being successful in life
- Watch TED Talks about being successful and implement those strategies in their own lives e.g. Simon Sinek ‘How Great Leaders Inspire Action’
I am polite, thankful and kind to others. I listen to and encourage other’s opinions. I have empathy for every person’s life situation
- Read the biography or autobiography of a leader in their field who has had a significant difference in the way others are treated e.g ‘I am Malala’
- Join the schools RAF CCF Cadets, a local Army Cadets, fire Cadets, Scouting, Guiding etc
- Volunteer with local charities.
- Support elderly or vulnerable members of the community
- Participate in National Citizenship Service
- Participate in Youth Parliament
- Watch documentaries or film biopics on significant people from history such as Martin Luther King, Gandhi, and Malala Yousafzai
I am positive, optimistic and never give up.

- Learn and use a variety of mindfulness strategies to boost mental wellbeing
- Research Mel Robbins 5 Second Rule and how it may help in building up resilience and adaptability
- Research James Clear’s Atomic Habits and put habit setting into action
- Review Carole Dweck’s TED Talk on ‘The power of believing you can improve’ and plan a strategy to implement Growth Mindset into their learning and daily lives
I am kind to others and kind to myself
- Support local charities through fundraising or volunteering
- Complete random acts of kindness
- Organised a personal health and fitness plan and maintain it
- Join a local sports club or team
- Practice mindfulness strategies
- Support elderly or vulnerable members of the community
- Watch Matthieu Ricard’s TED Talk on ‘How to let Altruism be your guide’ and plan how to implement the techniques he suggests
- Read the biography or autobiography of someone who is famed for their acts of kindness
I am honest and will do the right thing, even when no one is looking
- Support around the home without being asked
- Volunteering in the local community
- Created and stuck to a revision and homework plan
- Keep up a responsibility for something within the home or community
- Support family members and friends and resolve conflicts through reasoning and kindness
- Develop good habits for exam success through regularly accessing and using online learning tools such as GCSE Pod, Seneca Learning and Hegarty Maths
- Explore the value of integrity by using Ash Beckham’s TED Talk on ‘When to take a stand and when to let go’
