Celebrations as CSIA students receive top GCSE results

Students at Camborne Science and International Academy (CSIA) were celebrating a fantastic set of GCSE results today, despite months of remote learning and disruptions due to the pandemic.

Principal, Ian Kenworthy, praised his students for their “incredible” GCSE results after a challenging year, commenting, “These results represent an enormous amount of hard work, perseverance and dedication, which is especially admirable during such unprecedented times. I’d like to personally congratulate all students and staff for their unwavering efforts – these results are a well-deserved reward and a true representation of our continuous strive to be extraordinary.”

“We are overjoyed with this year’s results and couldn’t be prouder of our students and staff who have all worked tremendously hard. It’s been a difficult year, but we are so proud of the CSIA community – everyone has gone above and beyond.”

Standout successes include Georgiana B, who recorded 10 grade 9s in English Language, English Literature, Mathematics, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Computer Science, French, History and Economics and a grade 8 in Further Mathematics, and plans to study A Levels at CSIA’s Cornwall School of Maths and Science (CSMS). She commented, “I feel incredible! I worked so hard to achieve these results and the teachers supported and challenged me in my learning. I am looking forward to studying subjects in greater depth at CSMS, ready for university.”

Maddi F with 2 grade 9s in English Language and Mathematics, 3 grade 8s in English Literature, Biology and Spanish,  4 grade 7s in Chemistry, Computer Science, Physics and Further Mathematics and 2 Distinction*s in Creative iMedia and Dance, will be continuing her studies at The VI Form Academy at CSIA, studying History, Psychology, Biology and English Literature. She commented, “I am really happy with my results. I had great self-belief in my abilities and I am looking forward to continuing my educational journey at The VI Form Academy.”

Faith C also recorded exceptional grades, achieving 9 grade 9s in English Language, English Literature, Mathematics, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Computer Science, Spanish, History and a Distinction* in Creative iMedia, plus a grade 8 in the prestigious Further Mathematics qualification. She will go on to study A Levels at CSMS with a desire to secure a place to study medicine in the future. “I am overjoyed and really happy with my results; it’s gratification for the last five years of really hard work. At CSIA I have been challenged in my learning and the teachers have been incredible. I look forward to my future journey of self-discovery at The VI Form Academy in preparation for university,” she said.

Daisy M will also attend CSMS next year after achieving 9 grade 9s in English Language, English Literature, Mathematics, Biology, Chemistry, Computer Science, Spanish, History and Economics and a grade 8 in Physics. Daisy added, “I’m really happy with my results as I worked hard to achieve them. I am looking forward to my future learning when I attend CSMS.”

Gaby A gained 8 grade 9s in English Literature, Mathematics, Further Mathematics, Biology, Chemistry, Computer Science, Geography and Spanish, as well as Grade 8s in English Language and Physics and a Distinction* in Creative iMedia. Gaby is looking forward to starting his A Levels in Mathematics, Chemistry, Further Mathematics and the Extended Project qualification at CSMS.

James B will also return to study for his A Levels at CSMS having gained 6 grade 9s in Mathematics, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Geography and Spanish, plus 3 8s in English Language, English Literature and Computer Science and a Distinction* in Creative iMedia. James plans to return to CSMS to study Mathematics, Physics, Further Mathematics and the Extended Project qualification, and is currently planning to study engineering at university. “I’m ecstatic about my results. I worked hard and the teachers were great in pushing me to achieve these grades. I am looking forward to studying subjects further at CSMS and growing to be even more independent in readiness for university,” he said.

Anya A and Amy J both also achieved a full set of top grade 9s apiece and will go onto study A Levels next year.

Other notable achievements include Ben W with 5 grade 9s, 4 grade 8s and a Distinction*; Ben H with 4 grade 9s, 4 grade 8s and 2 grade 7s; Bethany W with 4 grade 9s, 1 grade 8, 1 grade 7 a Distinction*; and Nathan D with 5 grade 8s, 2 Distinctions*s and a Distinction.

“We’re delighted that CSIA has sustained its high level of attainment and it’s a pleasure to see so many superb individual performances – a tribute to our commitment to exceptional teaching and learning”, said Emma Haase, Vice Principal at CSIA. “It is always wonderful to see the reactions of students who are so deserving of these incredible results, not just those who achieve the highest grades, but all those who have received the grades they deserve.”

“This is one of the most rewarding days in our school calendar and this year it is extra special after what has been an incredibly challenging time for both our staff and students. Every single achievement at our Academy matters hugely to us and we are very pleased that we have so many remarkable ones to celebrate.”

CSIA will be welcoming the vast majority of its students back to The VI Form Academy in September with Mr Kenworthy explaining, “GCSE results day represents the culmination of 11 years of hard work for our students and their outstanding grades show that our Academy continues to prepare students for the challenges of A-levels, university and beyond. As they return to study for places at university and in employment, excellence is what our students will continue to strive for.”
