PE, Sport and Dance

Overview | Key Stage 3 | Key Stage 4 | Key Stage 5

Overview

At Camborne Science and International Academy, we aim to realise every student's potential with a commitment to participation and performance. The faculty of PE, Sport & Dance has a commitment to both curricular and extracurricular activities that will help motivate, stretch and provide students with opportunities to raise their own self-esteem and contribute to raising the profile of CSIA within the wider community.

Physical Education has a unique contribution to make the overall development of the students in terms of personal, social, emotional and physical attributes.

Students experience a Physical Education Curriculum which continually stresses the true value of sporting involvement and physical activity.

  • In developing positive attitudes, encouraging a sense of responsibility to oneself and others as individuals, whilst generating a sense of fairness, honest involvement and good behaviour
  • In ensuring safe participation, recognising and following relevant rules, laws, codes, etiquette and safety procedures for different activities
  • In promoting health and positive lifestyles through artistic expression and physical activity, this being of importance at all levels of ability

The PE Department

We are a team of eleven full and part-time Physical Education teachers. In terms of leadership, there is currently a Head of PE, Sport and Dance; a Deputy Head of PE, Sport & Dance, along with our Primary Sports Alliance Coordinator. The school is part of the larger Peninsula Sports Network regularly competing in both the Peninsula leagues and wider County competitions. We also play host to the large and  successful CSIA Primary Sports Alliance. The Primary Sports Alliance, which includes ourselves and eleven feeder primary schools, is dedicated to ensuring the highest quality of PE and Sport for all students; from a very young age through a comprehensive programme of events, CPD and development. Please see our Primary Sports Alliance page for more information.

The faculty is well equipped and resourced, with newly refurbished facilities and Changing Room.

Current facilities include:

  • Floodlit Multi Use Games Area
  • 12 Tennis Courts / 9 Netball Courts
  • Extensive Playing Fields
  • Fully equipped fitness suite (Brand new in February 2016)
  • Specialist Dance studio
  • Sports Hall and Gymnasium
  • Climbing Wall

Extra-Curricular activities

Extra-curricular activities play an important part in Camborne Science and International Academy life and as a faculty, we run a double layered extra-curricular programme. This programme includes high quality, school led clubs from 3 - 4pm in a huge variety of sports followed by a programme of stepping stone clubs from 4 - 5pm and into the evening; all of which run in conjunction with local community clubs providing clear pathways for our students into long-term physical activity habits. Please see the clubs timetables for up to date term-by-term information. We have Community links with a range of clubs; Cornwall Cougars, Cornwall Sharks, Camborne Rugby Club, Camborne Bowls Club; just to mention a few.

Leadership Academy

Leadership courses and programmes feature strongly in each key stage and are delivered as part of the core PE programme and as units within our BTEC, GCSE, A Level, NCFE and VI Form Sports Academy programmes. In January 2016, we have developed a CSIA Leadership Academy which enables all students to have an opportunity to be selected for the Leadership Academy. This Academy provides a structured pathway for Leadership and allows the students to gain volunteering hours through the Primary Sports Alliance. Throughout the school, we have successful courses in JSLA, CSLA & HSLA. CSIA PE faculty was recently highlighted as an 'outstanding centre' by the visiting moderator for Sports Leadership in South West and awarded the accolade of 'Sports Leadership Academy' by Sports Leaders UK.

CSIA's Sporting Successes

Our U13 Boys Cricket Team have been Country Champions two years running with our U15 team taking Gold at County Level. These are just some examples of our many team successes. We also have a large number of individual successes with National and Regional performers in Netball, Rugby, Cricket, Surf Lifesaving, Shooting, Triathlon, Archery and Tae-Kwon-Do to name but a few.
